The Oscars 2011: Best Dressed

So the big night's all over and we all know who won the awards, but who gets a prize for best dressed...

First up is Best Actress winner, Natalie Portman, who wowed in a deep plum Rodarte gown. The soft fabric flowed beautifully over Natalie's baby bump to the floor, showing just a peep of her purple satin Jimmy Choos. The embellished low neckline and Tiffany tassel earrings added a bit of glamour to the beautifully low-key ensemble.

This wasn't love at first sight for me, but after closer inspection I can confirm Mila Kunis' place in the Best Dressed list. This pretty, lavender lace gown is a unique choice - feminine and a little bit sexy. Mila's simple up do sets the look off nicely.

It was good to see Sandra Bullock making a head start on this Spring's bright colours trend. Donning a structured, strapless Vera Wang, with matching coral lipstick, Sandra ensured all eyes were on her.

Amy Adams was stunning in this figure hugging, Sapphire blue L'Wren Scott gown. Encrusted with jewels and with a thigh high split, this dress shone on the red carpet. Amy gets extra points for daring accessorising - opting for a clashing turquoise stoned necklace and bracelet.

It's worth noting a few key trends that showcased at the awards last night. The return of the lady in red was one that couldn't be missed. Follow Zoe Saldana's lead and clash your red with a bright pink shoe or make yours evening appropriate by sticking to a dark crimson and some serious sequins a la Penelope Cruz.

Purple was another popular choice, and a personal favourite of mine for Spring. Scarlett Johansson worked the trend to the max in a seductive lace, backless Dolce and Gabana.

Golden Globes: Best Dressed 2011

It's always a fierce competition, but here's the pick of this Golden Globes best dressed 2011.

Angelina Jolie ditched her signature black palette, for a sequined emerald gown by Atelier Versace.

Other stars of the night, included Anne Hathaway in a gold, floor-skimming Armani Prive dress, which highlighted her stunning curves. The sequins shone perfectly against the red carpet, and Anne scores extra fashion points for her originality - not many opt for full length sleeves at a black tie affair.

Claire Danes was at her best in a salmon coloured, halter neck Calvin Klein. Working one of Springs hottest trends, the minimalist look, Ms Danes paired her outfit with one gold cuff and a sleek up do.

Host of the evening, Olivia Wilde, was one of the few stars to opt for the traditional puffball gown. Looking like a true princess, Olivia wore a breathtaking strapless Marchesa gown coated in silver and gold jewels.

Emma Stone teamed her new blonde locks with a beautiful, body-con maxi by Calvin Klein. Coral is the perfect colour for Spring, and though the dress may have appeared simplistic on a first viewing, the daring cut-away back and metallic clutch made sure this dress got the recognition it deserved.

A cream lace Burberry gown, with sheer sleeves, was the perfect dress for Leighton Meester. And her gold-box clutch is Hollywood glamour at its best.

Glee star Lea Michele shone in a pale pink, ruffled Oscar de la Renta. The one shouldered dress made sure all eyes were on Lea.

Sandra Bullock made the most of the event, showcasing a new blunt fringe and a gorgeously girly Jenny Packman chiffon gown.

Venice Film Festival 2010: Best Dressed

This year's Venice Film Festival has seen a real mix of daring or relaxed looks contrasted against the usual, old school glamour and sophistication of the red carpet gowns. Here's my pick of the best of both.

There is no doubt that this is the dress of the festival. Jessica Alba looked picture perfect in this romantic ruffled Valentino Haute couture mini. Jessica kept accessories to a minimum, and only wore dove grey suede heels, a silver clutch and diamond earrings. Red berry lips completed this elegant look.


Natalie Portman set the fashion bar high wearing this draped, crimson Rodarte gown at the premiere for her new film. This intricate dress, embellished with Swarovski crystals, is red carpet glamour at its best. Natalie finished off her classic look with a quilted Dior clutch and beautiful, strappy heels.


I don't know which to mention first! - The chunky biker style heels, or the just-below-the-knee floral frock. Both are too perfect for words. Jessica Alba, mixes in a bit of grunge with this floaty Dolce & Gabbana dress. Her sleek locks complete this edgy, rock-glam look.


It's a daring decision to opt for a mini on the red carpet, especially one with a train. Yet, Jessica Alba looked completely at ease in this duel length, black Valentino dress. Paired with tied up cage heels and a cute topknot, Jessica stole the show at the Machete premiere.


Another brave choice was made by Italian starlet, Jasmine Trinca. The actress arrived at the premiere of new flick, Black Swan wearing a casual Parisian style maxi. The stripes were polished up with a black wallet clutch, a navy waist belt and sparkling necklace and earrings. The outcome... super-groomed and understated. Extra style points deserved!


Isabella Rogonese caused a stir in her floor-skimming, Alberta Ferretti gown. This fairytale-esque dress sighed of old-school romance and glamour, but the monochrome colour scheme kept it fresh and modern. The ruffling is undeniably stunning!

Style Crush: Diane Kruger

Diane Kruger just doesn't get it wrong. She is undoubtedly the Queen of the red carpet, showcasing quietly sophisticated gowns, often with a modern and quirky twist.

As with every woman there are looks she goes back to time and again - vintage inspired items, monochrome palettes and blush coloured ball gowns. But there is never any sense that we're seeing something we've been shown before; there is always something new and intriguing about each garment. This is the beauty of Diane's style - original, understated and utterly cool.

The key to her fashion success is intelligent accessorising. Diane keeps things simple - a thin belt or one statement bracelet paired with a chic box clutch is all she needs.

She deserves extra style points for her fearless use of colour - fuschia pink, mustard yellow, bright red and royal blue are amongst her recent style quests.

A favourite with designers Karl Lagerfeld and Roberto Cavalli, she is often spotted on the front row at Fashion week. Diane has no quandary when it comes to testing out the new season's biggest trends - the androgynous look, bodycon, one-shouldered dresses, boho, grunge, tailoring, prints, ruffles and pastels are just a few of the latest trends she has sported.

Yet with Ms Kruger there is no attention grabbing behaviour; the clothes are allowed to speak for themselves. And speak volumes they do. She has a natural flair for fashion; an ability to wear any trend, make it her own, and always looks incredible. Even the more outrageous designer gowns are worn with effortless ease. This is surely the making of a style icon.

Even Diane's make-up and hair is flawless. Smoky eyes and natural lips are her signature look for showbiz events, and her blond locks are often swept back into a loose but beautiful up-do - truly the work of a pro.

And she can pull off the perfect daytime look too. A real girl's girl, in summer Diane opts for a cute dress, and simple grey cardi, again with minimum accessories. And for winter, she hottens things up by teaming over-the-knee boots with a short checked dress.

Oh, Diane Kruger, how I love thee.
